How IMS Ensures Leak-Free Welding

Welding is a critical process in the metal fabrication industry, and attaining leak-free welds is essential for a wide range of applications. Whether it involves manufacturing pressure vessels, creating structural components, or fabricating aerospace parts, ensuring the integrity of welded joints is paramount to guarantee leak-free performance. Integrated Manufacturing Solutions (IMS) stands at the forefront of this challenge, offering a comprehensive five-step process that not only meets industry standards, but also surpasses expectations in terms of quality and reliability.

5-Step Process to Ensure Leak-Free Welding

  1. Material Selection and Preparation: Choosing the right materials and preparing them the correct way is crucial for leak-free welding. Our skilled team has a deep understanding of different metal alloys and their properties. They carefully select materials that are compatible with the intended application and have appropriate corrosion resistance. Prior to welding, they ensure that all surfaces are clean, free from contaminants, and properly prepared to facilitate strong and leak-free welds.

  2. Skilled Workforce: Above all, when starting a welding project, having welders that are certified and highly skilled is one of the most important aspects. Our experienced welders have an average of 20 years of experience in welding. They possess extensive knowledge and experience in various welding techniques. These professionals undergo rigorous training. Their expertise allows them to execute precise welding procedures, ensuring leak-free joints.

  3. Quality Welding Procedures: Another important part of the welding process – implementing comprehensive welding procedures that adhere to industry standards and regulations. These procedures include pre-weld inspections, material preparation, appropriate filler material selection, welding parameters, and post-weld inspection processes.

  4. Advanced Welding Techniques: Our team stays updated with the latest advancements in welding technology and employs advanced techniques to achieve leak-free welds. By leveraging the right techniques, our team optimizes  weld quality and minimizes the risk of leaks.

  5. Rigorous Quality Control: To ensure that your welding project is leak free, it’s imperative that the company you work with has stringent quality control measures in place throughout the welding process. This includes inspection of incoming materials, weld preparation, joint fit-up, welding parameters, and post-weld inspection. By conducting thorough quality control checks, these companies can ensure the integrity of welded joints. This is exactly what our team ensures with every project we take on!

Pressure Decay Test Process Perfectly Detects Leaks

A good way to check your work is the “pressure decay test bench”. This electronically tests tank welds for leaks by filling the tanks with pressurized air. Once the air in the tank reaches 6 psi, the air pressure stops and sits and lets the air sit in the tank. Naturally, air always leaks, but it is the amount that leaks over a certain amount of time which determines if the welds are holding or not. If the measurements of the pressure decay test bench detects that the air is releasing too quickly, then it isn’t sealed correctly. If test results show air is not being released or has minimal leakage, then the welds are good and deemed “leak-free”.

Welding Parameter Optimization

Achieving leak-free welds also involves optimizing welding parameters such as current, voltage, travel speed, and shielding gas flow. Integrated Manufacturing Solutions has the expertise to fine-tune these parameters based on the material type, thickness, joint configuration, and welding technique. This optimization ensures proper fusion, minimizes distortion, and enhances the overall quality of the weld.

Continuous Training and Improvement

To maintain their high standards in leak-free welding, IMS invests in continuous training and improvement programs. They stay updated with the latest advancements in welding technologies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. By providing their workforce with ongoing training, they ensure that their welders are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to consistently deliver leak-free welds.
