Case Study: Worldwide Aluminum Railing Distribution Company

The COVID pandemic drastically changed the residential market. As more and more people started to work full-time from home the industry saw drastic increases in home prices along with materials shortages. For those who stayed put many began improving their homes by building out basements, offices, and other areas. In 2020, the United States saw a 275% increase in deck construction. Many manufacturers just weren’t ready to handle this type of increase, especially when put under the stresses of COVID-related health mandates. During this time, we had a worldwide aluminum railing distributor approach us needing support to maintain their inventory levels during this unprecedented surge. Aside from the increased demand, they also needed to shorten their lead time to make sure they would have enough stock out for delivery to meet demand while building out their inventory. We were able to leverage some of our hybrid stocking programs, along with reducing PO size to shorten lead times which really helped the customer manage their problems. At the end of the day, they were able to successfully maintain their inventory through the surge in demand, while increasing their overall revenue by having better lead time management.
